Choosing the Right Heating System for Your Home
In most homes or commercial buildings, either a furnace or heat pump provides the heat. The selection of heating equipment should be based primarily on fuel availability and local climate conditions.
Furnace vs. Heat Pump: Understanding Your Options
- Gas Furnace Benefits – In furnace operation, the relay opens when the thermostat calls for heat. An inducer fan activates, and a valve opens to inject a precise amount of gas into the burner assembly. An electronic ignition system then ignites the gas and the burner heats up the gas to the air heat exchanger. When the heat exchanger reaches the required temperature, the blower engages and draws heated air into the living area. Furnaces are efficient, reliable, and require minimal maintenance. They are popular in areas where natural gas is available and priced competitively.
- Heat Pump Efficiency and Use Cases – Heat pumps operate in the same manner as an air conditioner, employing the refrigeration cycle to exchange thermal energy. The primary difference is that a heat pump includes a reversing valve, which allows the refrigerant to flow in the opposite direction when the unit is in heating mode. Heat pumps are appropriate in areas that have a mild winter climate or where there is no access to natural gas. In certain regions of the country where outdoor temperatures are consistently near freezing, heat pump performance is significantly diminished. Lower outdoor temperatures rapidly degrade efficiency since the available heat in a given volume of air is substantially reduced.

My technician, Richard serviced my furnaces today. He contacted me by phone first and was on time. Richard was both friendly and efficient. Your techs are your best advertisements.Eloise B.

Saturday Night repair on the furnace (very cold outside). Great, service person was over within an hour, work was done quickly and I was all warm and cozy again!

I have used Meyer's several times for both plumbing and electrical work. The technicians are skilled, professional and friendly. It's a comfort to know that any issue I have will be handled correctly. They are also very responsive in terms of a quick turnaround time which is great! All the employees deserve a big hand. Very well my latest issue was a root problem that went all the way out to the alley. Water was backing up in the basement. The plumber handled it quickly and without issue.

Got a new water heater, was installed in about 2 hours and they did great work. Pricing was good too. I would definitely be calling them for any other work.

Great Prices, Great Work! They have installed a new central air unit and a now a new furnace along with new ductwork. Very happy with their work and especially with the prices. We got many quotes and they beat everyone by quite a bit. We'll be using them in the future as well!!

Heating and A/C. I really don’t know about the price, I guess compared with what I’ve seen on television, advertised prices. This is the first time we’ve had central air. They have good quality service.

I've used them a couple of times now for heating, air-conditioning and plumbing. Prompt service with call-ins before they arrive. Replaced my entire HVAC system and they did a professional job. Had an issue with the A/C unit where it turned on anytime the furnace turned on, but they came back the next day and fixed it. Would definitely recommend them for any work they do.
